The Women of First United Methodist Church

What is UMW?

United Methodist Women is an organization of approximately one million members whose purpose is to foster spiritual growth, develop leaders and advocate for justice.  Members raise nearly $25 million each year for programs and projects related to women, children and youth in the United States and in more than 100 countries around the world.  Read about the history, mission projects, and organization of the United Methodist Women by clicking HERE

Who is a United Methodist Woman?

United Methodist Women celebrates an inclusive membership and welcomes all women who want to become members.

Being a member of The United Methodist Church is not required nor is there any minimum age requirement. Out of a commitment for mission locally and globally with women, children and youth, United Methodist Women choose to participate in meetings, prayer, financial giving, study, action and service.

United Methodist Women is a community of women who nurture and encourage one another in their spiritual growth, personal leadership and transformation. As a member, you accept the challenge to expand concepts of mission.

How do the women of FUMC participate?

UMW members are very active in both local and national mission projects, including Cookson Hills Christian Mission, CONCERN, MUTUAL, and many others.  The ladies of FUMC are also very active in the UMW reading program.  Small groups (called "Circles") meet monthly for fellowship, devotion or lesson, discussion, and mission projects.

Tell me more about "circles."

FUMC has 6 UMW circles (named after various inspiring women in the Bible) meeting at various times and places throughout the month.  Circles often meet in member’s homes and include a time for fellowship and food, a devotion or discussion, and time spent discussing or working on the many mission projects.  Find a Circle that fits your schedule!

What about activities for the entire organization?

Each month, UMW has a meeting and social time. It is usually held at noon, with lunch and a program. Twice a year the meeting is held in the evening, usually once in the fall and once in the Spring.

How can I get involved?
Contact any of the Circle contacts (above) or the church offices at 336-3361.

We welcome all women. Please come and join us!
